Admission Criteria

The University's policy is to admit students purely on merit, based on:

• Academic record
• LUMS Graduate Admission Test (LGAT) scores
• Information provided in the application form
• Letters of recommendation
• Interview performance (if needed)

A minimum of 16 years of education leading to a BSc/BE/MSc degree is required. Possible prior degrees from the universities recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan include:

• BSc/BE Engineering or equivalent
• BSc in Computer Science (four - year program minimum units 180 or minimum credits 120)
• MSc in Computer Science
• MSc in Sciences (Physics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Management or a field considered suitable by the faculty)

All applicants should have at least 60% / FIRST DIVISION marks at intermediate, undergraduate and graduate levels

Candidates in possession of the above degrees may be required to overcome any deficiencies, as determined by the faculty, by taking additional units over and above the ones deemed essential for the fulfillment of requirements for the award of the PhD degree.

Candidates, who have degrees from such institutions that are not listed with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan will be required to get the equivalence certificate from the Commission.

The LUMS Graduate Admission Test (LGAT) is a requirement for applicants to the MS/PhD Programmes. International students can take GRE. LGAT will be conducted simultaneously in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.

Note: Taking the entrance test is not the same as applying for admission. You need to submit the application for admission separately. To apply for admission please click here.

Applicants to the PhD program (CS & CMPE) will have to appear for an interview. They will be initially prescreened on the basis of academic performance and LGAT scores. After the prescreening stage, they will be called for an interview
