Admission Criteria

| The University’s
policy is to admit students purely on merit,
based on: |

- Academic record
- Entrance Test GRE (General)/LUMS Graduate Admissions Test (LGAT scores)
- LUMS Placement Test (for one-year track students Only)
- Letters of recommendation
|

Academic Record |
| |
| Any one of
the following academic qualifications satisfies
the eligibility requirements for admission: |
| |
- Sixteen years (16) of education resulting
in a Master’s or a four year Bachelor’s
degree from a recognized university
- Three-year BA/BSc Honours from a recognized
international university
|
| |
| Students with
insufficient training in Mathematics/Economics
will be strongly advised to take the two-year
option. Final decision regarding eligibility
for the one-year or two-year programme will
be taken by the Admissions Committee. |

| Candidates,
who have degrees from such institutions that
are not listed with the Higher Education Commission
(HEC), Pakistan will be required to get an equivalence
certificate from the Commission. |

Entrance Test |
| |
| Applicants
need to take either the GRE or the LGAT to be
considered for admission to the MSc Economics
programme. |
| |
| Graduate
Record Examination (GRE) |
| |
| GRE (General)
is offered as a computer adaptive test world
wide. Details regarding registration are given
in the bulletin or www.gre.org. GRE taken more
than five years before the admission deadline
will not be considered valid. Only those results
will be accepted that are received directly
from the Educational Testing Service (ETS),
USA. The LUMS code for receiving the GRE scores
is 0679. |

Graduate Admission Test (LGAT) |
| |
| LGAT is offered
as an alternative test to GRE for candidates,
who for some reason cannot take the GRE. LGAT
will be conducted simultaneously in Lahore,
Karachi and Islamabad.

Taking the entrance test is not the same
as applying for admission. You need to submit

LUMS MSc Economics
Placement Test |
| |
| All students
applying to the one-year MSc Economics programme
must take the Placement Test. The Placement
Test is not required for candidates applying
for the two-year track. The placement test is
administered in Karachi , Lahore and Islamabad. |

| |
| |
| Applicants
interested in taking the Placement Test should
take the test according to the given schedule.
There will be no further intimation regarding
the schedule of the test. |

| You should
report at the test centre no later than 1:30
p.m. for the Placement Test. You should bring
only the Registration card with you. Stationary
will be provided by LUMS. Calculators will not
be allowed. You must bring your original national
identity card or valid passport; otherwise you
will not be allowed to take the test. |
