PhD Computer Engineering

Programme Overview

The objective of the LUMS post-graduate programmes is to produce academicians and professionals of the highest standards, and to inculcate research culture at LUMS, in particular, and in the country, in general.
The LUMS faculty includes PhDs from some of the best universities of the world, such as Stanford, Purdue University and Michigan State.. The Computer Science/Computer Engineering Department comprises of about 20 full-time faculty members, with eminent visiting scholars from abroad and within Pakistan diversifying and enriching the learning experience at LUMS.
The University's policy is to admit students purely on merit. A candidate's financial status or background is not a factor that comes into consideration. LUMS is committed to providing financial assistance in the form of loans and scholarships to deserving students. Applying for financial aid has no bearing on a candidate's chances of admission.
Several funding opportunities are available for the students. In 2005 more than Rs 12.1 million in financial aid was given solely to graduate students in the Computer Science/Computer Engineering Department. Funding opportunities are both merit-based and need-based, and also include work-compensation programmes like research assistantships and teaching assistantships. Students working on funded research projects can enjoy full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend. External scholarships are availed by many graduate students as well.
Research projects, an essential feature of the programme, add significant value by giving opportunities to the students to make direct contributions to expanding the frontiers of knowledge. The Computer Science/Computer Engineering Department has recently received over 24 million rupees in several externally funded research and equipment grants.
