This virtual conference on Dignity and Inclusion is hosted by the Office of Accessibility and Inclusion at LUMS. The conference is in line with and aims to further the University’s goal of making its campus a safe, accessible, and inclusive space for peoples from all walks of life.

Event themes:
The event has been divided into seven themes pertaining to human and dignity rights:
- Labour and Dignity Rights: The struggles of the manual labourers are many. They range from pay scales, to working conditions, to treatment at the workplace, to fair labor contracts and more. This session aims to explore the nexus between labour conditions, laws, and dignity rights within Pakistan.
- Transgender and Dignity Rights: The transgender population of Pakistan has historically been excluded and overlooked, particularly by beneficial legislation in Pakistan. It was only in 2018 that the ‘Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2018’ was enacted. This session aims to highlight how the new law is being implemented and how it can be used to address the violations of dignity of transgender persons in Pakistan.
- COVID-19 and Dignity Rights: Termed as the ‘Great Equaliser’, the COVID-19 pandemic is far from such, in fact, it highlighted significant gaps between the rich and the poor. This session’s aim is to highlight how peoples’ dignity is violated during this pandemic.
- Campus and Dignity Rights: Educational institutions across the globe bear responsibility not only to impart knowledge to young minds, but also cultivate a culture of empathy, sympathy, and responsible behaviour. In addition, with most education taking place remotely, it is important to reflect upon the accessibility of online education, and the ways in which dignity may be violated in the online and offline campus.
- Climate Change and Dignity Rights: Climate Change is a ticking time bomb, and for a country like Pakistan, the threat is graver than ever. In this session, while assessing the impact of climate change, panellists will comment upon its effects on the health, safety, dignity, livelihoods and societies as a whole.
- Women’s Access to Justice and Dignity Rights: Women in Pakistan face persecution socially and legally. In this session, however, the focus is on the justice system and the struggle of Pakistani women to seek justice.
- Prisoners’ Access to Justice and Dignity Rights: Incarcerated individuals face all sorts of mental and physical torture; their dignity is violated in multiple ways. This session will look at the indignities inflicted upon people in the criminal justice system, often those who are still under trial.
