ALUMS Chat is an informal, one-on-one virtual conversation with an alum where we ask the questions that are on everyone’s mind and hear unique, personal stories about their journey. Each episode features one alumni guest who will share their story.

In the eighteenth episode, we're joined by Huzaifa Ahmad (BSc 2017), the Co-founder of Rizq. Huzaifa Ahmad, Musa Aamir, and Qasim Javaid, all LUMS alumni who majored in Economics, initiated the project back in April 2015. They named their venture RIZQ, an idea aimed at playing a pivotal role in addressing the challenges of hunger and malnutrition in Pakistan.
For the past two decades, Huzaifa's mother has opened her home's gates every day at noon, welcoming those in need for lunch. Despite such efforts, hunger and poverty persist in Pakistani society. Coming from a privileged background, Huzaifa felt a responsibility to bring about change. Recognising a significant hunger problem coupled with widespread apathy, Huzaifa shared his concerns with his friends, Musa and Qasim, who shared his passion. Together, they decided to devise a plan for change.
Despite encountering challenges and seeking help, they found that their initiative was unprecedented in Pakistan. Faced with disappointment, Huzaifa considered giving up, but Musa and Qasim encouraged him to persevere. Determined, they took a leap of faith.
Without a concrete plan, fueled only by their determination, they convinced Huzaifa to create a Facebook page, sharing their contact information for those willing to contribute food. The page went viral overnight, leading Huzaifa, Musa, and Qasim to drive around Lahore, collecting and distributing food to the less fortunate.
The movement was named RIZQ at the suggestion of Huzaifa's mother, and the rest is history. Rizq has garnered recognition with four prestigious awards: Points of Light, Award by Queen, Corona Heroes, and Pride of Pakistan Award.
