LUMS Honours Syed Babar Ali’s 100th Birthday and Celebrates 40 Years of the University
On June 10, 2026, the LUMS community came together to honour the 100th birthday of Syed Babar Ali, Founding Pro Chancellor of LUMS, and reflect on the University’s remarkable 40-year journey.
The occasion brought together Babar Sahab, Deans, founding and current faculty, staff, and donors for a special conversation on the vision, values, and people that shaped the foundation of the University. Moderated by Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Cheema, the discussion featured distinguished faculty members from all five schools, who reflected on LUMS’ evolution as an institution, its impact over four decades, and the principles that continue to guide its mission.
The conversation also paid tribute to Babar Sahab’s extraordinary legacy of visionary leadership, enduring values, and unwavering belief in the power of institutions to transform society. Speakers shared reflections on the University’s early years, its commitment to academic excellence and access, and the collective efforts that have enabled LUMS to grow into one of Pakistan’s leading institutions of higher education.
