LUMS-Zhejiang Lanyu Digital Tech Partnership Brings Advanced Textile Research to Pakistan
Over the past year, Dr. Ali Rauf, Assistant Professor at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), has been working closely with Zhejiang Lanyu Digital Technology Co. (ZLDTC) to shape a research agenda focused on digital ink performance and fabric compatibility. His efforts have culminated in this significant collaboration in textile science, introducing new testing capabilities at LUMS, particularly in areas such as colour retention and fabric durability.
Building on this shared vision, LUMS and ZLDTC have formalised their collaboration through an MoU. The partnership reflects LUMS’ ongoing commitment to fostering industry-academia linkages and advancing applied research to drive innovation in Pakistan’s textile sector.
“This is a first step—there is considerable potential for LUMS to engage more deeply with Pakistan’s textile sector,” said Dr. Walther Schwarzacher, Dean, SBASSE.
The collaboration opens new avenues for student involvement, hands-on experimentation, and industry-relevant learning at LUMS. It also lays the foundation for potential long-term engagement, as ZLDTC plans to establish a USD 200 million textile ink manufacturing and supply facility in Faisalabad—an initiative where LUMS’ research capabilities can offer valuable insights and local expertise.
Highlighting ZLDTC’s commitment to innovation through academic collaboration, Mr. Afzal Ahmad, Regional Manager Asia, added, “With LUMS joining our academic partners, we are excited about the innovation this partnership can foster.”
